About The Position

LAWS Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Services (LAWS) is seeking a Weekend (Overnight) Shelter Specialist. This role supports adult and child survivors of domestic violence by responding to hotline calls and assisting clients in high danger who are referred to and stay in the LAWS DV shelter. The position also involves maintaining accurate data and documentation, and assisting with shelter upkeep. LAWS is a values-driven nonprofit committed to diversity and ongoing professional development, providing services and supports to domestic violence and sexual assault survivors in Loudoun County.

Requirements

High school diploma
1 year experience in direct human services role
Ability to provide crisis intervention services
De-escalation and conflict management skills
Survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and empowerment-based practice
Commitment to free, voluntary, confidential, and low-barrier services
Cultural humility and responsiveness to underserved communities
Understanding of domestic violence dynamics, safety planning, and survivor autonomy
Commitment to language access, disability access, and meaningful service accessibility
Ability to collaborate across programs and community partners
Accurate documentation, data entry, and grant compliance practices
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
Problem-solving and adaptability in a fast-paced environment

Nice To Haves

Bilingual/ Multilingual (Spanish)
Experience answering crisis hotline
Experience in shelter or residential setting
Experience working with VAdata
Bachelor's Degree in a human service- related field (e.g., Social Work, Psychology, Public Health)

Responsibilities
