About The Position

This is a full-time position for an MRI Tech working a weekend program, specifically Saturdays and Sundays with twelve-hour overnight shifts (7 PM to 7 AM). The role is eligible for benefits and offers a $2,500 sign-on bonus. The MRI Tech is accountable for patient positioning, immobilization, selection of technical factors, and reformatting acquired data to obtain high-quality magnetic resonance scans. Responsibilities include initiating IVs for contrast media, archiving images, following MRI workflow, networking images to PACS, and verifying studies. The position also involves operating support equipment, preparing patients for examinations, documenting patient history, statistics, supplies, billing information, and any incidents or allergic reactions. The MRI Tech ensures proper film identification, assists in scheduling, and maintains confidential patient history to ensure procedural appropriateness. Compliance with accrediting organization and departmental safety standards, including magnetic, radiation, fire, disaster, evacuation, quench, universal, and infection safety, is crucial. The role requires maintaining documentation of equipment malfunctions and attending mandatory in-services. Keeping abreast of current magnetic resonance and radiological skills, attending educational seminars, and instructing other technologists and students are also key aspects. Maintaining good relations with internal and external customers is essential.

Requirements

  • 2 yrs Radiology or MRI program graduate
  • ARRT or ARMRIT
  • 1 hour annually in stroke care
  • Basic knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and usual MRI procedures
  • ARRT Registry or ARMRIT
  • CPR Certification
  • Ability to work overtime when required.
  • Ability to be flexible in starting times to meet demands.
  • Ability to respond to work at short notice.
  • Ability to communicate with patients
  • Ability to adjust to flexible work hours
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and emergency call-back
  • Ability to participate on-call program and available to meet department needs with minimal notice.

  • This position will need to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e., understand child growth and development, normal patterns of adolescent behavior and look for signs of normal aging.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.

Nice To Haves

  • MRI Certification Preferred or within 12 months of hire into position for (ARRT only)
  • Prior experience with various age groups is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the positioning and immobilization of patients and proper selection of technical factors along with computer reformatting of acquired data to obtain magnetic resonance scans procedures of optimal quality.
  • Initiates IVs for administration of contrast media for MRI enhancement in accordance with departmental policy and utilizing universal precautions in the process.
  • Archives images onto optical disks.
  • Follows MRI workflow including networking of images to PACS and verifying studies.
  • Selects appropriate technical factors on an individual patient and procedural basis to provide optimal quality examinations.
  • Performs post processing of computer data to enhance data and image information.
  • Operates support equipment for MRI, such as: independent workstation additional disc drives, pressure injector, PACS.
  • Transfers patients to and from MRI scanning table and prepares patient for examination by explaining procedure and answering any questions patient may have.
  • Accountable for obtaining documentation for department records related to patient statistics, supplies, patient billing information and preservation of patient records.
  • Documents any allergic reaction, incident report regarding staff or patient situations.
  • Provides timely information for inventory of supplies.
  • Ensures all films are properly identified and numbered for each patient according to current department procedures for accurate interpretation by radiologist.
  • Assists in scheduling of examinations and documenting complete.
  • Documents confidential patient’s history to ensure appropriateness of patient for examination.
  • Documents patient charge data, modifying and initiating charges as procedure modifications are made per the radiologist.
  • Accountable for securing pertinent history from patient, patient’s chart or family member to provide the radiologist with adequate information for examination interpretation and to ensure procedural criteria is met.
  • Thoroughly fills out, signs and dates all required forms.
  • Assists in obtaining confidential history of patient which includes allergy screening to ensure appropriateness of patient for examination as well as ensuring the administration of contrast agents during required procedures.
  • Accountable for being compliant with established Accrediting Organization and department safety standards to ensure patients and staff well being at all times.
  • Maintains magnetic and radiation safety standards.
  • Maintains fire safety standards.
  • Maintains knowledge of department Code Blue policy.
  • Maintains knowledge of departmental disaster, evacuation and quench policies.
  • Maintains and constantly implements universal and infection safety standards.
  • Maintains documentation of equipment malfunctions and monthly coil checks.
  • Attends mandatory in-services.
  • Promotes patient safety by reporting issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives.
  • Accountable for keeping abreast of current magnetic resonance, and radiological skills and new developments in the field.
  • Responsible for attending in-services and educational seminars when appropriate.
  • Responsible for instructing other technologists to certain new techniques learned, as well as working with students when required.
  • Accountable for maintaining good relations when dealing with all persons encountered in daily performance of job.
  • Relating with Internal Customers – fellow staff members, physicians.
  • Relating with External Customers – ancillary departments, inpatients/outpatients, family members.
