About The Position

Multnomah Athletic Club is seeking a Weekend Gym Attendant to support their Court Sports Department. This part-time role involves instructing junior sports classes, assisting with open play programs and camps, and maintaining a welcoming environment across various gym and court spaces. The ideal candidate is passionate about creating fun, active, and safe experiences for children and families, enjoys working with youth, loves sports, and thrives in an energetic setting.

Requirements

  • Experience working in an athletic environment (school sports, clubs, intramurals, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience instructing or interacting with youth is highly valued.
  • Strong communication, customer service, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a positive and professional presence.
  • Comfort using Microsoft Office applications and basic technology tools.
  • Commitment to safety and excellent member service.
  • Ability to adapt to schedule needs and cover shifts when necessary.
  • Ability to enforce health and safety guidelines in court areas.
  • Strong teamwork and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to bend, twist, lift up to 20 lbs, climb stairs, set up equipment, and stay active throughout shifts.
  • Ability to operate a computer, phone, and keyboard; type at least 40 wpm.
  • CPR/AED, First Aid, and SafeSport certification (or ability to obtain within 3 months).

Responsibilities

  • Instruct and assist with junior sports classes including soccer, basketball, baseball, fitness, gym games, and more.
  • Help run open play programs, camps, and organized activities.
  • Provide in-person customer service and support member inquiries.
  • Monitor gym areas, ensure cleanliness, and report equipment issues or safety concerns.
  • Set up and break down equipment (nets, hoops, batting cage access, etc.).
  • Enforce safety protocols and follow all MAC policies and procedures.
  • Assist with registrations and cancellations in NorthStar.
  • Perform light administrative tasks using Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Communicate regularly with the Court Sports Supervisor and collaborate with department staff.
  • Substitute for positions such as Junior Sports Instructor or FitZone Attendant when needed.
  • Act as a resource for members with program questions.
  • Communicate professionally with parents, juniors, members, and staff across departments.
  • Participate in staff training and contribute ideas for program improvements.
