About The Position

CUMBERLAND HEIGHTS is seeking a Weekend Counselor to join their team. Cumberland Heights is a community focused on providing high-quality care for individuals and families affected by chemical dependency. Their mission involves treating the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of recovery in a safe, loving, and healing environment, integrating professional excellence with the principles of the Twelve Steps.

Requirements

  • LADAC required with Master’s degree in related field (e.g. counseling, psychology, marriage and family therapy, social work) preferred
  • Five (5) years of clinical experience with supervisory experience strongly preferred
  • Commitment to practice within professional codes of ethics, including NAADAC
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft (Outlook)
  • Ability to learn and use various clinical software, including electronic medical records.
  • Proficient with current video and media technology (slide decks, internet clips, etc.) for teaching purposes.
  • Ability to skillfully adapt to changing circumstances and patient needs.
  • Ability to be open and culturally humble to a wide variety of patients’ experiences that may be outside the counselor’s own, including the full span of human development.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively speak, read and write in English; second language, particularly Spanish a plus
  • Ability to teach, model and use evidence-based counseling practices in support of 12 Step philosophy
  • Ability to interact with co-workers in a collaborative and courteous manner.
  • Ability to deescalate a person in crisis in a calm and supportive manner; work calmly and professionally in stressful situations and ally with people in crisis
  • Ability to self-manage to maintain a therapeutic environment using a variety of behavior management skills
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply information regarding age/cultural/population specific characteristics to patient care.
  • Must be certified or eligible for CPR and First Aid.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the implementation of the patient schedule including special events for assigned area(s)
  • Participates in team report, as well as ongoing communication, with clinical support staff, Weekend Supervisor, and On Call Director, as well as other areas of the organization, to ensure continuity of care.
  • Provides crisis assessment as indicated, coordinating with nursing and medical providers, as well as responding and coordinating crisis response as needed (e.g. threat of harm to self or others, potential substance use, potential psychosis, against medical advice discharge attempts, behavioral acting out/struggles to follow community guidelines, etc.)
  • Facilitates individual, group and family counseling sessions within the scope of practice as defined by education and licensure.
  • Provides clinical supervision for clinical and clinical support staff, as well as interns, within the scope of practice as defined by education and licensure.
  • Notifies Weekend Supervisor of staff coverage issues for assigned area(s), assisting with shifting of responsibilities as needed.
  • Problem solves customer complaints and risk management issues, reporting events to supervisor and the Quality Management as needed.
  • Provides weekend report to Weekend Supervisor and weekday staff and management.
  • Performs CPR and First Aid as needed.
  • Documents pertinent clinical information into the electronic patient record.
  • Ensures that a welcoming, safe and healing environment is maintained for each patient and family throughout the continuum of care.
  • Recommends ways to improve the quality and delivery of services.
  • Ensures proper handling and distribution of company funds.
  • Maintains confidentiality of company and patient information.
  • Reacts productively to change.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
