About The Position

WQAD-TV Davenport, an ABC TEGNA affiliate, seeks an experienced Multi-Skilled Journalist to help maintain its tradition of superior reporting and newsgathering. The role is suited to a creative storyteller who can produce unique, memorable, well-written stories and share them across platforms using strong photography and editing. The journalist should understand multi-platform journalism and be open to approaches beyond traditional TV news. A current driver's license and the ability to operate a news-gathering vehicle to and from various locations are required.

Requirements

• Current driver's license and ability to operate a news-gathering vehicle to and from various locations.
• Solid news judgment, strong communication skills, creativity, and ethical decision-making skills.
• Strong writing and production skills, including tease writing abilities.
• Ability to stay organized and work under constant deadlines.
• Ability to calmly handle live breaking news situations and changing events.
• Proven social and digital content creation ability.

Nice To Haves

• 1–3 years of reporting experience preferred.
• Experience with ENPS, EDIUS, and Axis graphics preferred.
• Knowledge of Davenport is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform authoritative, compelling live shots during developing stories and breaking news situations.
• Develop story ideas and find community sources with expertise in relevant areas.
• Identify, write, and produce stories within a specific framework; research facts and verify credibility.
• Maintain and develop sources to strengthen reporting.
• Shoot, write, produce, and edit on-air and online content within deadlines.
• Use creative production techniques, including graphics and new forms of media such as viewer pictures and webcam interviews, to enhance stories.
• Use social media and digital tools to research, discover, and distribute content.
• Attend editorial meetings and offer story ideas daily.
• Write in an exciting, captivating, and authentic manner.
