About The Position

As a Web Press – Operator I, you will direct the crew and perform manual and machine operator tasks related to the set-up, maintenance, and operations of the press. You will be responsible for training new crew members on your specific machine. This role requires the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects efficiently while staying organized in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate works independently and collaboratively with sound judgment and minimal supervision, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Strong communication skills are essential for collaborating effectively in team settings and communicating clearly with diverse individuals and groups. The ability to quickly learn and apply new computer applications, automated systems, and related technologies is also important. The role involves standing or walking for up to 8-12 hours, depending on the assigned shift, with occasional sitting, kneeling, squatting, or stair climbing. Repetitive material handling tasks and concentrated or detailed work for extended periods are expected. Willingness to work beyond standard business hours when required is necessary.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Four years’ experience in press operations.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects efficiently while staying organized in a fast-paced environment.
  • Works independently and collaboratively with sound judgment and minimal supervision, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Collaborates effectively in team settings and communicates clearly with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Quickly learn and apply new computer applications, automated systems (i.e. robots), and related technologies.
  • Follows verbal and written instructions accurately and completes required training or certifications as needed.
  • Able to lift and move materials weighing 30-75 pounds and handle objects or equipment using hands and fingers for most of the work shift.
  • Capable of standing or walking for up to 8-12 hours, depending on the assigned shift, with occasional sitting, kneeling, squatting, or stair climbing as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot machines according to job specifications and production goals.
  • Inspect materials and samples regularly to maintain high-quality standards; ensure all samples are pulled, reviewed, and initialed.
  • Verify and record production data accurately, including press counts, Autocount printouts, and packing slips.
  • Maintain equipment cleanliness and proper operation during production and downtime; follow maintenance programs and document all activities.
  • Enforce and adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); recommend improvements when appropriate.
  • Ensure all crew members understand and follow work orders, resolve discrepancies, and support successful job completion.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including PPE, ergonomics, and chemical handling, to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Train and assist crewmembers on procedures, new equipment, and maintenance tasks.
  • Monitor resources such as supplies and materials and report shortages to the supervisor promptly.
  • All other duties as assigned.
