Web Developer, Contract

CapeNew York, NY
$100 - $200

About The Position

Cape is a privacy-first mobile carrier and security company looking for a contract web developer to own and maintain our marketing website and related web properties. You'll be the primary owner of cape.co and associated sites, working closely with our engineering, marketing, and product teams. Most weeks you'll handle a mix of content updates, new page builds, and the occasional larger feature - we estimate 12-25 hours per week. Our site gets tens of thousands of visits per day, and we’re frequently updating and standing up new campaigns. We’re looking for someone security-minded and who can implement privacy-first marketing attribution.

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency with modern JavaScript/TypeScript and Next.js (or similar React frameworks)
  • Experience with Vercel deployments and CI/CD pipelines
  • Hands-on experience with headless CMS platforms like Sanity
  • Familiarity with web security fundamentals — query injection, API key hygiene, env var security
  • Experience with marketing analytics tools like Mixpanel, Google Ads, Meta, and demonstrated ability to implement web analytics beyond out-of-the-box implementations, such as the ability to set up custom event tracking, conversion tracking, and server-side data collection in a way that prioritizes user privacy and minimizes unnecessary third-party data exposure
  • Proficiency working from Figma - able to extract specs, assets, and layout details and implement them faithfully in code.
  • A good eye for design and UX detail - you won’t be creating designs, but you should be able to catch inconsistencies or UX issues during implementation and flag them proactively.
  • Ability to independently review, test, and merge PRs with minimal hand-holding
  • Cross-browser compatibility experience (we have a significant private browser user base)
  • Experience with image optimization workflows (WebP conversion, responsive images)
  • Familiarity with Node.js version management and dependency tooling

Nice To Haves

  • Security-minded mindset; previous experience with vulnerability remediation is a big plus

Responsibilities

  • Deploy and manage production releases (monitoring builds, diagnosing failures, optimizing build pipelines)
  • Update and manage content through our CMS, with a solid understanding of publish/draft states and preview link behavior
  • Implement copy and design updates
  • Translate Figma designs into pixel-accurate, production-ready pages and components
  • Maintain and update the web checkout flow
  • Handle web analytics and attribution integrations
  • Run A/B tests
  • Handle integrations with our email marketing CRM, map provider, and more
  • Proactively address performance issues — image optimization, build efficiency, and page load improvements
  • Implement and maintain SEO best practices (meta tags, robots directives, etc.)
  • Identify and remediate security vulnerabilities promptly — this is especially important for us as a security company
  • Stay on top of dependency maintenance, Dependabot alerts, and keeping the repo clean
  • Be responsive to requests from cross-functional stakeholders (marketing, product, engineering)

Benefits

  • top-tier healthcare
  • 401(k) matching
  • a generous vacation policy that our team actually uses to recharge
