About The Position

Telemundo Las Vegas is seeking a dynamic Weather Anchor to tell the market's weather stories in a way that connects with and captivates viewers. This role involves developing innovative and creative ways to present the daily weather story, emphasizing accuracy and hyper-local forecasting. The Weather Anchor will produce weather graphics, analyze data from meteorological sources, and utilize advanced technologies like MAX reality and 3-D models for creative storytelling. Responsibilities extend to producing weather segments for other Telemundo and NBCU stations, collaborating with the weather team and producers on coverage of weather events, and preparing post-forecasts for multiple news platforms in both Spanish and English. Daily engagement with social media, especially during severe weather events, and updating the Telemundo Las Vegas website are crucial. The role also requires live reporting and attendance at community and weather-related events, potentially including MC duties. Participation in editorial meetings with prepared enterprise ideas is expected. Other duties as assigned by the News Director may apply.

Requirements

  • One to two year experience as a television presenter.
  • Spanish-fluent (spoken and written)

  • Must have the ability to work flexible and sometimes long hours due to the nature of weather events in Las Vegas.
  • Ability to possibly work nights and weekends for coverage of weather events.
  • Must be 18 years or greater.
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
  • Compelling on-air presence - crisp, clear, and confident delivery in Spanish
  • Should thrive working under the intense deadline pressure of television weather.
  • Technologically savvy with strong computer skills (working knowledge of WSI system and WSI 3D graphics preferred.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills in Spanish and English.
  • Strong leadership qualities and self-motivation.
  • Understanding of the demands of an on-air HD environment

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in meteorology preferred or commitment to obtain the degree within a contractual time period
  • Experience with severe weather coverage, including but not limited to hurricanes, tornados, severe thunderstorms, flooding and ice events
  • Passion to be a part of a major weather event, no matter when it happens.
  • BS degree in meteorology preferred (Or commitment to obtain the degree).

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of MAX reality and producing 3-D models to integrate into creative storytelling.
  • Use MAX Connect and MAX Reality on the field.
  • Produce weather segments for other Telemundo and NBCU stations.
  • Work with the weather team and producers to create complete coverage of weather events.
  • Prepare post forecasts for multiple news platforms in Spanish and English.
  • Use of social media daily and especially during severe events.
  • Constantly update the weather for the Telemundo Las Vegas website.
  • Live reporting and attendance at community and weather-related events.
  • Daily social media posts, especially during severe weather events.
  • MMJ duties may apply during the work week.
  • Participate in the editorial meetings, be on time, and be prepared to contribute enterprise ideas to the producer team.
  • Represent Telemundo Las Vegas in the community through events requiring the employee to MC.
  • Other duties assigned by News Director.
