About The Position

The Wealth Advisor II is responsible for providing investment management services to customers of the Bank. This role involves articulating the Investment Philosophy of Canandaigua National Bank to prospective and current clients, as well as centers of influence. The position requires delivering excellent service, achieving established goals, complying with operating policies, communicating effectively, responding to inquiries, and maintaining records and reports. The Wealth Advisor II will nurture client relationships, provide financial planning and investment solutions, conduct face-to-face client reviews, and collaborate with internal specialists. They will maintain high levels of client communication regarding account activity, market conditions, and educational guidance, documenting interactions as preferred by clients. The role includes monitoring cash and investments, reviewing portfolios, recommending changes, preparing Investment Policy Statements, initiating buy/sell orders, and monitoring uninvested cash. Additionally, the Wealth Advisor II will complete annual compliance reviews, conduct research on investment securities, stay informed about legal and tax changes affecting investments, and prepare various reports, including tax and regulatory forms. Active engagement in customer activity to meet annual goals (New Business Development, Revenue Growth, Asset Retention, Compliance Reporting, LOB referrals) is crucial. The position also requires adherence to laws and policies promoting a harassment-free workplace, cooperation with risk management and safety initiatives, compliance with operating policies for internal controls and regulatory adherence, and effective communication with management and staff. Responding to inquiries and maintaining sales reports are also key duties. The Wealth Advisor II will mentor and train junior investment officers and perform supportive tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • A B.S. or B.S. degree in a field related to banking or equivalent normally required. A combination of education and work experience will be considered.
  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP) required.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years' experience in related positions.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA Preferred.
  • Specialized Wealth Management education and training such as Chartered Financial Analyst, Chartered Mutual Fund Counselor or similar further education preferred.
  • Experience in banking/financial services preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Nurtures and maintains client relationships, providing proper financial planning and investment solutions to ensure the client’s financial needs are being met.
  • Provides the proper amount of face-time with the client to review the financial situation/plan; brings in other specialists and trusted advisors from within the CNC organization, as necessary.
  • Maintains highest level of communication with clients informing them of activity within the account, strategies to capture current market and economic conditions, and providing educational guidance when needed.
  • Communicates and documents this communication at a level desired by individual clients (verbal, letters, email, corporate functions).
  • Monitors the cash and investments of each account with consideration of the objectives of the accounts, the needs of beneficiaries, and cash requirements for taxes and distributions.
  • Reviews portfolios on a regular basis and recommends changes to clients as may be appropriate.
  • Prepares and documents Investment Policy Statements (IPS).
  • Initiates and follows through on buy and sell orders and monitors uninvested cash seeking investment opportunities when appropriate.
  • Completes annual Regulation 9 compliance review on a timely basis.
  • Performs research and review of stocks, bonds, and other investment securities; makes reports and recommendations on ways to better meet account objectives.
  • Maintains an active awareness of changes in legal and tax requirements which may affect the investment of accounts (including the employment of risk reducing strategies such as diversification and asset allocation).
  • Prepares and maintains documentation, status records and reports on investment and accounts and financial planning activities; prepares various reports, statements, and forms including tax, regulatory, and other governmental forms as required.
  • Actively engages in customer activity to meet the required annual goals as established as part of the operating plan. (To include but not limited to New Business Development; Revenue Growth; Asset Retention, Compliance Reporting, and LOB referrals).
  • Abides by the current laws and organizational policies and procedures designed and implemented to promote an environment which is free of harassment and other forms of illegal discriminatory behavior in the workplace.
  • Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness.
  • Complies with established operating policies and procedures in order to maintain adequate controls and to support the Bank’s adherence to outside regulatory requirements.
  • Communicates with management and staff personnel in order to integrate goals and activities.
  • Responds to inquiries relating to his/her particular area, or to requests from other Bank personnel, customers, etc., within given time frames and within established policy.
  • Maintains appropriate records and provides assigned reports, including sales reports.
  • Provides mentoring and on-the-job training and guidance to junior investment officers and others as needed.
  • Performs tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or re-designed depending upon individual circumstances.
