About The Position

Performs general clerical duties including analyzing and interpreting abnormal meter reading reports for errors and making corrections. Creates and processes read reports for billing and generates monthly meter reading and billing schedules. The role involves running reports for billing controls, overseeing the mailing of water and electric bills, and generating reread orders for customers. The Billing Clerk responds to customer complaints and inquiries, providing advice and assistance on high electric and water bills due to possible errors. This position also includes creating and entering electric and water meter change orders, assisting with data entry on power routes, and handling billing adjustments, corrections, over/under reads, voids, rebills, and manual adjustment vouchers. The clerk is responsible for compiling and saving all processed data reports for billing and auditing purposes, adding late notice fees and penalties to delinquent accounts, and must learn the current electric and water data receiving system. Additionally, the role requires reviewing daily alert reports with appropriate personnel and alerting customers as needed. Other reasonably related job responsibilities may be assigned by the Manager or Assistant Manager.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform each essential duty listed above satisfactorily.
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience in accounts receivable demonstrating increased responsibility.
  • Minimum of 2 years in customer service involving handling customer complaints and explaining policy.
  • Considerable knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures.
  • Excellent knowledge of best practices office practices/procedures and some knowledge of clerical principles and practices in purchasing.
  • Considerable knowledge of the preparation and presentation of reports containing financial information and data and experience preparing and presenting oral and written reports.
  • Knowledge and skill in MS office software-Word, Excel, Outlook, basic accounting.
  • Proven skills in conflict resolution, resilience, handling complaints.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data, draw conclusions and prepare clear and concise reports and recommendations.
  • Ability to perform all duties in our billing department to ensure the billing process is completed daily.
  • Ability to communicate and deal with public and co-workers in a professional and positive manner.
  • Ability to handle customer complaints skillfully and respectfully.
  • Ability to work and deal with wide range of individuals, dealing with situations in which the individual may be upset over some issue involved with the utility billing department.
  • Ability to work effectively with frequent interruptions in a team environment as a team player.
  • Integrity, in the performance of assigned tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license from the State of Mississippi.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferably, a Degree in Business Administration or at least two years community college or college level accounting or business courses or work experience with the billing department of at least 2 years.
