Using various hand, heated, and electric tools, the Wax Assembly Operator assembles complete wax pattern trees from individual wax patterns. These trees must meet the visual and dimensional specifications outlined on technique cards and be acceptable to the shelling department. The role also involves ensuring that documentation, tooling, and parts are correctly matched to paperwork. The operator will follow department priorities and instructions on individual paperwork to collect specific part numbers and quantities of wax patterns. If patterns contain a soluble core, they must be processed through a dissolving bath and cleaned according to instructions. Completed trees may require water weighing, with results documented. The operator will perform repairs such as fixing breaks, sealing bubbles, fusing cracked areas with a hot iron, reinforcing areas with hot wax or ceramic sticks, and smoothing areas with a knife or other hot tool. They will use measuring devices like micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators to rebuild parts to meet department and customer requirements. A final inspection is conducted before the shelling department assumes responsibility. The role requires maintaining accurate records of work performed, meeting production and quality standards, and adhering to set OPC’s and QCP’s. Good eye-hand coordination is essential. The operator will perform all necessary work to achieve plant goals and may assist in training lower-skilled classifications.
