This role involves performing highly diversified duties to completely gate new or modified patterns. The technician will use a variety of hand tools to repair supplied patterns, including scraping and smoothing surfaces, blending contours, removing bubbles and excess material, and filling holes and cracks to prepare wax patterns for gating. The position requires working from verbal and/or written instructions, and sometimes concepts from engineering personnel, to produce sample set-ups. The technician will determine flask size, properly rig patterns to fit specified flasks, and submit completed units for approval. After approval, the technician will set up and photograph the unit for reference records and prepare written descriptions of the work. The rigged pattern will be delivered to the Gating Supervisor for use as a production sample, and the technician may be asked to explain rigging and related procedures to Gating personnel. The role also includes detecting faulty operations, defective material, and reporting these and any unusual conditions to the supervisor. Secondary duties include complying with safety requirements, maintaining a clean work environment, participating in training and medical monitoring, wearing required PPE, performing all physical functions of the position, meeting attendance standards, working overtime as needed, and reporting work-related injuries or illnesses immediately.
