About The Position

The Contra Costa Water District (CCWD) is seeking an experienced Watershed Resources Specialist to join the team responsible for protecting and managing the Los Vaqueros Watershed. This role involves advancing conservation goals, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering public programs. The position offers the opportunity to work in a unique natural environment, managing trails, facilities, and natural resources across thousands of acres. It emphasizes a strong safety culture, varied and meaningful work, and collaboration with a passionate team of land stewards.

Requirements

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in watershed management, biology, environmental science, natural resources management, wildlife management, forestry, wildland recreation management, or related field.
Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in land management or the administration of natural resources; preparing environmental documents, conducting environmental mitigation studies, and evaluating biological impacts and ecological restoration; and/or administration of wildland recreation and public interpretive and education programs and activities.
One (1) year of lead or supervisory experience.
Possession of a valid California driver’s license to be maintained throughout employment.
Ability to obtain and maintain possession of a valid California PC 832 certificate within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

Building and maintaining positive working relationships with employees, contractors, and environmental regulatory agency representatives.
Direct day-to-day operations of public recreation facilities and trails, including volunteer, interpretive, and community education programs.
Coordinate with fisheries, cultural resources, and public information staff and partner agencies on resources management projects and programs.
Oversee watershed law enforcement and public safety operations; issue citations, support fire suppression and prevention, and provide wilderness assistance as needed.
Prepare and review environmental, regulatory, and technical reports; submit required documentation to local, state, and federal agencies.
Develop and implement goals, policies, and standard operating procedures for assigned operations in support of the Watershed Resources Superintendent.
