At RA, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We are actively seeking a Watershed Maintenance Worker to join our team! The primary function of this position is to support the health, safety, and long-term sustainability of Reston’s lakes, ponds, streams, and stormwater systems. This role plays a vital part in protecting our natural resources, enhancing environmental stewardship, and ensuring a positive community experience aligned with our mission and purpose. The Watershed Maintenance Worker will assist the Watershed Manager and Specialist with day-to-day field operations, including environmental monitoring, shoreline maintenance, stormwater infrastructure inspection, and lake management support. This position contributes to the overall effectiveness of RA’s Watershed team by helping to maintain water quality, address erosion control needs, monitor invasive species, and ensure safe and welcoming natural spaces for the community. This team member will work closely with Watershed staff and other departments to support field operations, environmental maintenance, and community facing activities.

Requirements

  • Age 18+
  • High school diploma.
  • Familiarity with environmental science topics or a willingness to learn.
  • Comfort working on the water and ability to operate a boat or canoe.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in afield based environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact courteously with the public.
  • Willingness to learn and operate a variety of tools and equipment, including: Automatic transmission pickup trucks
  • Gas and battery powered yard tools
  • Standard hand tools
  • Johnboats with electric motors
  • Canoes/kayaks
  • Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to maintain consistent attendance.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Progress toward a degree in environmental science, environmental studies, engineering, or related fields.
  • Experience with ArcGIS (Field Maps and Survey123) and Microsoft Excel.
