Watershed Coordinator

NEW Solutions•Bismarck, ND

About The Position

The Watershed Coordinator supports the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service through the Agriculture Conservation Experienced Services Program, administered by National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions). This is a non-federal, temporary enrollment funded through an existing NRCS–NEW Solutions agreement, not a federal position or NRCS hiring action. The enrollee provides direct support to farmers and landowners by helping implement conservation practices and supporting conservation planning and technical assistance. The role is intended to expand field-office capacity and help NRCS staff focus on emergency and other high-priority responses; it does not replace federal staff. The coordinator works on watershed projects and plans, including preparing sections of watershed plans covering the affected environment, environmental consequences, consultation, coordination, and public participation. Plan appendices may include consultations, comments and responses, and investigation and analysis reports such as biological inventory, CPA-52, aquatic resources, and cultural resources reports. The coordinator works with biologists, soil scientists, and cultural resource specialists and stays current on relevant policies. The position is based in Bismarck, is budgeted for 16 hours per week, and includes periodic government-vehicle travel for field work and one to two overnight trips per year. Enrollment is at-will and does not guarantee employment for a definite period.
