About The Position

Support the care and presentation of Minnetrista’s gardens, containers, hanging baskets, greenhouse crops, and horticultural displays through routine watering and plant care activities. Assist the Horticulture Department in maintaining healthy, attractive plant material across campus while contributing to a welcoming and positive visitor experience.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently while demonstrating a strong work ethic, teamwork skills, and the ability to follow schedules and instructions.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, kneeling, standing for extended periods, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize basic plant health and watering needs.
  • Dependable attendance and strong time management skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a manual transmission vehicle around the grounds.
  • Must be aligned with Minnetrista’s cultural values and visitor-centric focus.
  • Demonstrates maturity, sound judgment, and a positive attitude while working collaboratively with peers and colleagues throughout the organization and community.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional courses in horticulture or related fields preferred.
  • General knowledge of horticulture, gardening, greenhouse production, or plant care preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Water annual displays, containers, hanging baskets, greenhouse crops, and landscape plantings following established schedules and procedures.
  • Monitor plant health and communicate watering needs, pest concerns, or plant stress to horticulture staff.
  • Assist with irrigation setup, hose management, watering equipment maintenance, and routine system checks.
  • Support general garden maintenance including deadheading, light pruning, weeding, and plant grooming as needed.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas, including proper storage of hoses, watering tools, and materials.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown related to horticulture projects, seasonal displays, and events as needed.
  • Greet and interact with visitors in a professional and welcoming manner.
  • Follow safe gardening practices and utilize appropriate safety equipment.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
