About The Position

The Wastewater Technician is responsible for performing technical work in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant to ensure compliance with applicable permits and regulations. Duties include but are not limited to; monitoring plant operations, sampling and testing water quality, making operational changes, recording daily activities and changes in plant operation, operating dewatering equipment, inspecting plant equipment, and identifying needed repairs. This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing. This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must obtain certification as Water/WW Operator within one year (Level I)
  • Three (3) months experience water plant experience (Level II)
  • Georgia Class III certification/license in water (Level II)
  • Two years of water treatment or wastewater experience or, BS Degree in a related field or a current Class I certificate in another category and one year of water treatment or wastewater experience or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job (Level III)
  • Georgia Class III certification/license in water (Level III)
  • Three years of water experience or a BS Degree in a related field or a current Class I certificate in another category and two year of water experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job (Level IV)
  • Georgia Class I certification/license in water (Level IV)

Responsibilities

  • Assisting other water staff with various operator duties (Level I)
  • Performing technical, independent work in the area of water treatment (Level II)
  • Serving as lead to lower-level classes (Level II)
  • Performing highly technical work in the area of water treatment (Level III)
  • Serving as lead to lower-level staff (Level III)
  • Serving as a lead worker in the water treatment plant (Level IV)
  • Assigning and monitoring work (Level IV)
  • Providing training as needed (Level IV)
