About The Position

Under general supervision (of either the Water or Wastewater Systems Lead and Water or Wastewater Systems Supervisor), operates, maintains, repairs and services DFW Airport’s Pre-Treatment Plant; Reverse Osmosis Facility; Deicing Collection and Transportation; Sanitary Sewer Collection and Transportation; Industrial Waste Collection and Transportation; Trigg Lake Aeration, Potable Water Storage and Distribution; Reclaimed Water Storage and Distribution; and Board Irrigation systems.

Requirements

  • Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of water or wastewater systems.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.
  • Possession of a valid Class B Commercial driver’s license, or the ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater systems.
  • Knowledge of the tools and materials of the mechanical trades and their application.
  • Knowledge of the principles and operating characteristics of pumps, motors, motor controls and monitoring equipment.
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with assigned equipment and operations.
  • Knowledge of proper lifting techniques.
  • Knowledge of governmental regulations applicable to water/wastewater systems.
  • Ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, sketches and diagrams.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to detect, diagnose and correct defects and malfunctions in the water distribution and wastewater collection systems, and equipment and instruments associated with pump and lift stations.
  • Ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations such as fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to pass a medical physical examination.
  • This is a DOT-designated and Airport-designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass drug and alcohol tests prior to employment and to submit to drug and alcohol screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.
  • Possession of a Class C Water Works or Class I Wastewater Collection System operator certificate as issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) or the ability to obtain within 1 year of employment.
  • Must possess a good private driving record: (a) no more than two (2) convictions of moving violations in the last 36 months and (b) no DWI convictions in the last 60 months.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a Class D water or wastewater works operator certification issued by TCEQ.

Responsibilities

  • Operates, maintains, repairs and services pumps, motors, compressors, dehumidifiers, pressure and motor controls and other components of pre-treatment plant systems and water/wastewater systems, Reverse Osmosis, deicing systems, sanitary/ industrial lift stations, Trigg Lake Aeration, and Potable Water, Reclaimed Water and Board owned irrigation systems.
  • Installs, repairs and replaces water and sewer mains; joins and caulks pipe; repairs valves and hydrants; drills and installs taps.
  • Excavates and backfills trenches and culverts using backhoe and hand tools.
  • Operates vacuum truck to remove debris from storm sewer system.
  • Exercises all valves in the system; makes repairs as necessary.
  • Inspects and cleans manholes; manually removes line-clogging debris; repairs or replaces manhole covers and raises and lowers covers to proper grade.
  • Reads and interprets data from charts, gauges and dials; makes adjustments or repairs on equipment and instruments or reports deficiencies when repairs are beyond technical expertise.
  • Inspects temporary water service connections for compliance with Board policies and procedures.
  • Performs daily chlorine residual test; maintains safety equipment in operable condition.
  • Reads water meters and records readings.
  • Performs periodic inspections of storage tanks.
  • May inspect the work of outside contractors and other Board departments installing new or extended water/wastewater lines on Airport property; may enforce compliance with State regulations and Board policies and procedures.
  • Cleans and paints pump and lift station structures, equipment, distribution system components; maintains grounds and landscape.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports.
  • Inspects, maintains, and repairs Board owned irrigation systems.
