The Water/Wastewater Process Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the evaluation, planning, design, and construction administration of municipal water and wastewater treatment facilities & processes, distribution and collection systems, chemical storage & feed systems, and process mechanical, piping and pumping systems. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in evaluating and designing process piping and process mechanical systems
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, fluid mechanics, and treatment processes
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; familiarity with Revit or other 3D modeling software is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering
  • Familiarity and experience with water and wastewater treatment facility processes and design
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the commonwealth of Virginia

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, design, and analysis of water and wastewater treatment facility infrastructure and associated process mechanical systems
  • Develop plans, technical specifications, and cost estimates for pumping stations, treatment facilities, and related infrastructure
  • Perform hydraulic analyses, equipment selection, and system sizing
  • Support project development activities including permitting and coordination with regulatory agencies
  • Provide construction administration services, including shop drawing review, field observations, and coordination with contractors
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects on schedule and within budget
