Water & Wastewater Process Design Practice Leader

Lockwood Andrews & Newnam IncHouston, TX

About The Position

At Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN), we help Texas communities solve real infrastructure challenges. Water and wastewater treatment facilities are among the most consequential projects we design: they protect public health, support growth, preserve resources, and need to work reliably for decades. We are looking for a respected, curious, and technically grounded process engineer to lead this work across LAN. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys being close to complex engineering while also shaping how a growing firm serves its clients. You will guide treatment-process decisions on important projects, help establish the technical direction of our water and wastewater practice, and build a team around the work that most energizes you. LAN has a strong foundation in water and wastewater process design and is investing in the next phase of that capability. This is an invitation to build a practice that looks forward: bringing sound engineering judgment, a strong point of view on emerging technologies, and a genuine interest in helping others grow. As LAN's Water & Wastewater Process Design Practice Leader, you will serve as the firm's principal technical resource for process design. You will work alongside project managers, discipline leaders, and client-service teams to solve complex treatment challenges across Texas, from planning and alternatives evaluation through design, construction, startup, and operational support. You will have room to help define the practice. That may include growing a dedicated process-design team, developing technical standards and training, pursuing specialized work, and building relationships with clients and industry partners around the areas where you see the greatest need and opportunity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, chemical, or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer license, with the ability to obtain Texas licensure if not already licensed in Texas.
  • Typically 12+ years of progressively responsible experience in water and wastewater treatment process design, planning, or operations support.
  • Demonstrated technical depth in municipal water and/or wastewater treatment processes.
  • Experience leading technical work, mentoring engineers, and communicating directly with clients.
  • A record of involvement in professional organizations, technical committees, publications, or presentations is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Providing technical leadership and quality oversight for complex water and wastewater treatment projects, including process planning, alternatives evaluation, treatment selection, design criteria, and process modeling.
  • Serving as a trusted advisor to municipal clients and project teams on treatment-process decisions, regulatory considerations, resiliency, operational performance, and lifecycle value.
  • Leading conceptual and technical reviews for significant or challenging projects and helping teams make sound decisions early, when they matter most.
  • Staying actively engaged with new and proven treatment technologies, research, regulatory developments, and industry practices, then helping LAN and its clients adopt innovation thoughtfully.
  • Setting a high bar for process-design quality, consistency, constructability, and practical operability across the firm.
  • Recruiting, mentoring, and developing engineers who want to build expertise in water and wastewater process design.
  • Partnering with LAN leaders to identify strategic pursuits, support proposals and interviews, and grow the firm's process-design capability in areas that align with community needs and your professional interests.
  • Sharing expertise outside the firm through technical papers, conference presentations, client workshops, professional committees, and other visible contributions to the industry.
  • Collaborating across disciplines, including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and controls, and construction-phase services, to deliver integrated solutions.
