About The Position

Under general supervision, operates sewer flusher, flusher/vacuum, and vacuum excavation equipment. Performs manual and equipment operating duties in various Public Works construction, maintenance, or operational functions. This role involves ensuring water quality and system integrity, performing excavation and restoration, maintaining and inspecting water distribution and wastewater collection systems, and assisting with various installation and repair tasks. The operator is responsible for ensuring compliance with standards and regulations, investigating and resolving issues, and training less experienced personnel. Duties are to be executed in a courteous manner, maintaining a positive image of the Region of Peel.

Requirements

  • Minimum grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Minimum three (3) years of job related experience
  • Minimum acceptable MECP certification in Wastewater Collection OIT and a Water Distribution Class 1 or Wastewater Collection Level 1 and a Water Distribution OIT
  • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of manual and power equipment
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Capable of accurately completing work forms and reports
  • Must have a working knowledge of computers
  • Must have a working knowledge of applicable regulations as they apply to compliance
  • Must successfully complete regulatory training and mandatory retraining courses
  • Physically able to perform requirements of the job
  • Possess a Class “DZ” license in good standing with preference for “AZ”

Nice To Haves

  • Preference for progressive advancement to the certification of the subsystem class level
  • Meter Installers Certificate preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs water quality and system tests and takes corrective actions
  • Performs hand excavation, backfilling, restoration brickwork and pipe laying
  • Maintains, operates and inspects water distribution and wastewater collection system assets
  • Assists in watermain tapping, sewer main rodding hydrant repair and CCTV inspection service
  • Operates sewer flusher, flusher/vacuum and vacuum excavation equipment in the performance of water/wastewater installation and maintenance activities
  • Ensures all work is performed in compliance with relevant standards, legislation and regulations
  • Investigates complaints, faults or problems and determines causes and remedies
  • Trains and instructs less experienced personnel in specific operations and maintenance duties
  • May participate in inspections and audits
  • Executes duties in a tactful and courteous manner, maintains a neat appearance and performs duties in a way that conveys a "positive image" of the Region of Peel
