About The Position

Under the direction of the Working Foreperson, the Water and Wastewater Operator Level II is responsible for performing tasks related to the installation, operation and repairs of the water distribution, water treatment, and wastewater collection systems. Requirements

  • One year of recent experience at a Class 2 or higher distribution/treatment facility
  • EOCP Water Distribution Operator’s Certificate (Level 2)
  • EOCP Water Treatment Operator’s Certificate (Level 2)
  • Waste Water Collection Operator’s Certificate (Level 1)
  • Chlorine Handling Certificate
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems
  • Maintains certification through continuing education
  • WHIMIS Certificate
  • Minimum First-aid training (Level 1) St. John Ambulance or alternate
  • Confined Space Entry and Certification Awareness
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate
  • Criminal Record Check with results acceptable to WFN
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and an annual driver’s abstract in excellent standing which is to be submitted annually
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation.

  • Dependable, reliable, and available to work overtime and to be on standby as required
  • Ability to work independently or within a team structure and to work cooperatively with other WFN departments
  • Comfortable dealing with the Membership and public
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Be physically able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to be self-motivated with personal initiative to start and complete projects with pre-approval when required

Nice To Haves

  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
  • Backflow assembly tester certificate
  • Valid Class 1 or Class 3 BC Driver’s License with Air Brake endorsement

Responsibilities

  • Performs scheduled maintenance of all waterworks and sewage collection system components
  • Supports the water sampling program when necessary by taking water samples and interpreting results
  • Ensures work is performed safely and in adherence to established work standards
  • Complies with all applicable safety regulations and procedures
  • Regularly monitors gauges, meters, and control panels and adjusts any variations within the operating conditions of the system, if/when necessary, under the advisement of senior operator
  • Ensures the safe operation and maintenance of all related tools and equipment
  • Maintains records and prepares reports for water and wastewater systems
  • Assists with water and sewer service installations
  • Builds strong working relationships with the other Development Services departments and other industry representatives
  • Responds and addresses all public concerns pertaining to the water and wastewater system in a courteous and professional manner
  • Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control
  • Maintains shift logs and records meter and gauge readings
  • Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties
  • Monitors construction sites/projects as it relates to water and wastewater facilities according to maintenance and repair activities
  • Performs supervisory duties as assigned from time to time
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with industry standard and the Westbank First Nation policies, standards, and procedures
  • Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of Westbank First Nation
  • All persons employed by Westbank First Nation will be required to assist the organization in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties
  • Being part of the rotating on-call schedule is required for this position which includes responding to after hour calls within a 20-minute response time and takes corrective action as required
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies, standards, and procedures
