About The Position

HDR's Water/Wastewater Engineer will perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of engineering techniques and procedures for the design of water and wastewater treatment facilities and collection systems.

Requirements

  • A Master's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a closely related field and 3 years of experience in wastewater engineering, environmental engineering, or environmental science or a Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a closely related field and 5 years of experience in wastewater engineering, environmental engineering, or environmental science.
  • Required experience may include professional, internship, or university research or teaching experience and must include experience in: biological treatment processes and systems; physical and chemical treatment processes and systems; hydraulic design and analysis using AFT Fathom, Visual Hydraulics or EPA SWMM; process design and modeling using BioWin, GPS-X, or SUMO; and statistical analysis.
  • Must hold Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or have passed the Professional Engineer (PE) examination (from any US jurisdiction).
  • Regional travel may be required up to 3 days per month.
  • National travel may be required up to 5 days per quarter.
  • All HDR positions in the US may be subject to background checks and/or pre-employment drug testing.

Responsibilities

  • Functioning as a design lead on mid-size projects, which includes: leading and providing technical oversight for development of project contract documents (including technical specifications and drawings) for preliminary and detailed design of water and wastewater treatment facilities and collection systems; leading work of engineering staff and technicians; and managing design changes to contract scope of work
  • Functioning as a project lead on small to mid-size projects, which includes: developing scope of work, schedule, and budget; leading work of engineering staff and technicians; preparing invoices and progress reports, monitoring budget and estimate cost to complete; preparing subconsultant contracts and managing subconsultants; and managing design changes to contract scope of work
  • Leading and organizing engineering services (submittals, RFIs, and change orders) during construction
  • Leading preparation of general sewer plans, reclaimed water master plans, nutrient reduction evaluations, and facility plans, which includes: performing wastewater facility planning focusing on condition assessment, flow and loading projections, system capacity, alternatives analysis, and cost estimation; developing process designs for nitrogen and phosphorus removal; writing technical memorandums and reports; leading work of engineering staff and technicians; and managing design changes to contract scope of work
  • Leading emerging contaminants monitoring, evaluation, and removal studies at wastewater treatment and reclaimed water facilities, which includes: leading work of engineering staff and technicians; and managing design changes to contract scope of work
  • Performing quality control reviews of complete treatment system design and project contract documents
  • Supporting market development and proposal preparation for new projects
