About The Position

Aurora Water is responsible for providing life sustaining services to the residents, visitors, and businesses of Aurora. We plan, design, operate, and maintain the drinking water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage systems throughout the City. Our major infrastructure includes three potable water treatment facilities (totaling over 200 million gallons per day), a reclaimed water treatment facility, over three dozen pump stations, lift stations, and a source-of-supply system containing reservoirs, large diameter pipelines and tunnels. Aurora Water’s mission is to enhance and protect the quality of life for Aurora citizens by providing safe, dependable, and sustainable water, sewer, and stormwater services, today and in the future. The Water Utility Supervisor supervises and coordinates the personnel and operations responsible for utility warehousing and inventory, skilled trades, and facilities maintenance within the Water Department's Operations Division. The position establishes work priorities, coordinates resources and contractors, supports safe and reliable operations, and ensures assigned work is completed in accordance with departmental standards, safety requirements, and operational needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Five (5) years progressively responsible experience in maintenance, repair or construction in a large utility including experience in material and equipment procurement and maintenance utilizing a computer-based inventory and project tracking database system.
  • Colorado Class I Water Distribution Certificate
  • Colorado Collection System Class I Certificate
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license and ability to operate a city vehicle, or otherwise demonstrate ability to meet the transportation requirements of the position
  • Principles and practices of employee supervision, work planning, training, and performance management
  • Principles and practices of facilities maintenance, skilled trades, warehousing, inventory control, and preventive maintenance
  • Materials, equipment, tools, and work practices commonly used in utility maintenance and operations
  • Occupational hazards and applicable safety practices associated with utility, maintenance, warehouse, and skilled trades environments
  • Principles and practices of materials management, purchasing, inventory control, and vendor coordination
  • Applicable water utility operations, systems, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Planning, prioritizing, assigning, and evaluating the work of employees and work crews
  • Coaching, training, and providing constructive feedback to employees
  • Coordinating work across multiple operational functions and competing priorities
  • Identifying operational and safety concerns and developing practical solutions
  • Coordinating with contractors, vendors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
  • Reviewing plans, specifications, work orders, maintenance records, and other technical or operational documentation
  • Monitoring budgets, expenditures, inventory, and operational resources
  • Using computerized inventory, maintenance, work management, or project tracking systems
  • Safe use of hand tools, power tools, and equipment operation
  • Lead employees performing work across multiple operational and technical disciplines
  • Establish priorities and coordinate personnel, equipment, materials, contractors, and other resources
  • Analyze operational problems, evaluate alternatives, and exercise sound judgment in selecting appropriate courses of action
  • Interpret and apply applicable policies, procedures, safety requirements, technical standards, and regulations
  • Balance planned maintenance and operational priorities with urgent or unanticipated service needs
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors, vendors, customers, and other City personnel
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Prepare and maintain accurate operational records, reports, and documentation
  • Use applicable computer systems and software to support inventory, maintenance, procurement, scheduling, reporting, and other operational functions

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and coordinates utility warehouse, skilled trades, and facilities maintenance operations; establishes priorities and allocates personnel, materials, equipment, and other resources to meet operational needs.
  • Plans, assigns, monitors, and reviews the work of assigned employees and crews; provides direction, coaching, training, and technical or operational guidance as needed.
  • Participates in employee selection and makes recommendations regarding hiring, performance management, training, recognition, corrective action, and other personnel matters.
  • Develops and implements operational goals, work plans, procedures, and performance expectations for assigned programs and functions.
  • Coordinates preventive and corrective maintenance activities for assigned Water facilities, equipment, and related assets to support safe and reliable operations.
  • Oversees warehouse and inventory activities, including the availability, storage, tracking, and procurement of materials, tools, equipment, and operational supplies.
  • Coordinates with vendors, suppliers, contractors, and other city workgroups; reviews work requirements, addresses operational issues, and resolves problems or conflicts affecting assigned work.
  • Supports procurement activities by identifying operational needs, coordinating with vendors and distributors, reviewing available products and services, and making recommendations consistent with city purchasing requirements.
  • Develops, implements, communicates, and monitors compliance with applicable safety procedures and work practices; identifies hazards and coordinates corrective actions.
  • Develops and conducts or coordinates training related to assigned operations, equipment, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Prepares, monitors, and assists in administering assigned program budgets; monitors expenditures and identifies resource and equipment needs.
  • Maintains and reviews operational records, inventory and maintenance information, work documentation, and reports using applicable computerized systems.
  • Responds to and resolves complex operational issues and service concerns involving employees, contractors, vendors, customers, or other stakeholders.
  • Represents the department at meetings, committees, project discussions, and other internal or external forums related to assigned operations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
