About The Position

This is a skilled position in performing, assisting, and directing the maintenance and repair of mechanical/electrical equipment and machinery. This position maintains and repairs all equipment and machinery, both stationery and portable, at modern water and wastewater treatment plants, distribution booster stations, and collection system lift stations. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed by the supervisor for results obtained. Please note this posting is "Continuous" and can close at ANY TIME WITHOUT NOTICE. This position is for a Water Utilities Mechanic II however, it may be filled at the level of Water Utilities Mechanic I.

Requirements

  • High school diploma from an accredited school or a GED.
  • One (1) year of experience repairing and maintaining machinery, including engines, rotating equipment, and pumps (for Mechanic I).
  • Two (2) years of experience in repairing and maintaining machinery, including engines, motors, and pumps (for Mechanic II).
  • Must possess a valid driver's license (for Mechanic I).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class “B” CDL with appropriate endorsements as required by the employing department (for Mechanic II).
  • Must maintain a valid telephone number.
  • Required to pass and maintain qualification for: Respiratory Protection Physical Pulmonary Function Qualitative and Quantitative Fit Test(s).

Nice To Haves

  • Must obtain a Class "B" CDL with appropriate endorsements required by the employing department within six (6) months of employment (for Mechanic I).

Responsibilities

  • Performs the maintenance and repair of all equipment in treatment plants, booster stations, and lift stations.
  • Coordinates and performs preventative maintenance functions in accordance with predetermined schedules.
  • Plans and schedules routine work, including ordering materials and parts needed for repairs.
  • Performs more difficult repairs; trains and supervises subordinates in proper repair and maintenance procedures.
  • Drives, maintains, and operates boom trucks, forklifts, and other maintenance vehicles and machinery.
  • Performs light building and structure repairs and maintenance.
  • Performs troubleshooting of electrical controls and motors and corrects problems found.
  • Pulls trailer-mounted generators to lift stations and operates the stations when City power is disrupted or when required.
  • Compiles maintenance and repair data and enters data into computerized asset management system(s) for system reports and records.
  • May be required to participate in and/or facilitate training to support departmental or City initiatives and requirements.
  • May be required to work overtime or alternate hours as necessary for the efficient operation of the department.
  • May be required to participate in the Stand-by/Call-out rotation to respond to problems after normal working hours and on weekends, and may be subject to call-out at any time when other on-call personnel require additional assistance.
