About The Position

Contra Costa Water District (CCWD) is seeking a Water Treatment Supervisor to lead and support the daily operations and maintenance of one surface water treatment plant and related facilities. This role is responsible for supervising operations staff, ensuring compliance with water quality and regulatory standards, optimizing treatment processes, coordinating maintenance and capital improvement projects, and maintaining a safe and secure work environment. Working closely with the Water Treatment Superintendent, this position combines technical expertise, team leadership, and operational management to ensure the reliable production of high-quality potable water for the community. The position offers the opportunity to lead skilled staff, contribute to process improvements, support strategic planning and budgeting efforts, and serve as a key resource in maintaining public health and environmental compliance.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to an associate degree with coursework in chemistry, biology, or related.
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience operating a surface water treatment plant including two (2) years of lead or supervisory experience.
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Grade T5 Water Treatment Operator certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board.
  • Ability to obtain, and maintain possession of, an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliant Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise water treatment operations staff, including scheduling, training, performance management, and ensuring safe and efficient plant operations.
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant and related facilities, ensuring the reliable production of high-quality drinking water.
  • Monitor water quality, treatment processes, and regulatory compliance, making operational adjustments to meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities, facility improvements, and capital projects with internal teams, contractors, and consultants.
  • Support operational planning and administration, including budgeting, reporting, process improvement initiatives, and emergency response activities.
  • Serve as on-call supervisor on a rotational basis.
