About The Position

Based in Sudbury, ON, the Water Treatment Plant Operator Trainee will report to the Environmental Department Lead and will have a core range of duties which focus on water treatment in a mining environment. Other work elements will include sampling, minor maintenance, reagent inventory monitoring, and safety inspections. The plant does not require a certified operator. You will be part of a team that provides treatment, care, and maintenance to a growing number of inactive and/or reactivating mine sites in the private sectors. This is a new position. The base hourly wage range for this position is $24.00 - $27.00.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate reliability and responsibility
  • Comfortably lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Climb ladders for inspections
  • Safely work around typical water treatment chemicals (wear a mask as required)
  • Some awareness of a mine site operating environment (in related roles, preference for consulting experience)
  • General knowledge of water chemistry
  • High motivation with results-oriented focus
  • Superior organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Unwavering commitment to health and safety in the workplace
  • Ability in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Valid Class G driver’s license
  • Your own cell phone (preferable)
  • Comfortable working in and around water, in remote areas, in all weather conditions, and at night

Responsibilities

  • Attend the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) on a regular schedule ensuring that systems and effluent remain within release parameters
  • Perform routine sampling of both process and designated environmental samples.
  • Deliver samples to the lab
  • Maintain reagent inventories
  • Perform daily inspection of system equipment including calibration of meters
  • Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the WTP
  • Support and assist with research and procurement of equipment and supplier information, as requested
  • Record and report daily activities
  • Liaise with cross shifts, owners, and supervisors to define work and ensure expectations are met
  • Perform frontline monitoring work at the WTP, supported and managed by a distributed team consisting of the owner, TULLOCH, and other personnel
  • When the plant is not active, there may be opportunities to support other operations and environmental project work.
