About The Position

The Water Maintenance Technician performs routine inspections on wells and water system elements. Performs adjustments and alterations as needed to maintain water quality throughout the entire system for the City.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Three (3) years of water sampling experience is preferred.
  • TCEQ Water Operator Class D is required within six (6) months of hire.
  • Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A. (preferred)
  • Valid Texas Drivers License
  • Knowledge of water distribution operation including piping, sources of supply, water quality, disinfection, and water-related electricity.
  • Knowledge of operational principles of pumps and motors.
  • Knowledge of current principles, practices, and regulations of water distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of methods, techniques, and regulations used in cleaning, repairing, and maintaining water systems equipment.
  • Knowledge of geography, street locations, and water/wastewater system locations.
  • Knowledge of operation, maintenance, and repair of common hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of safety principles related to traffic control, trenching and shoring, and personnel.
  • Knowledge of TCEQ standards, policies, and regulations for water systems.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing systems and filing and records management systems.
  • Knowledge of current word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, and database programs used by the City; particularly, the MS Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of Public Works machinery and equipment of other maintenance functions and equipment of assigned trade areas.

Responsibilities

  • Performs duties associated with water distribution; performs well checks and sampling; installs, connects, relocates, adjusts, tests, maintains, repairs, and replaces water mains, valves, hydrants, meters, pumps, and other equipment.
  • Communicates with the public to address and resolve issues, alert to water restrictions, and provide any necessary updates or information; responds tactfully to questions from the public; delegates concerns to appropriate staff.
  • Addresses, investigates, follows up, and provides resolve to various service orders; follows department protocol and processes for reporting and managing work orders and projects.
  • Maintains a database and records relating to water quality; utilizes spreadsheets, files, maps, and other elements to record dates, locations, test results, and other relevant information.
  • Flushes water mains to ensure water quality is maintained throughout the distribution system.
  • Operates equipment, tools, machinery, and motor vehicles that include mowers, weed eaters, and power tools, trucks, loaders, backhoes, and other similar maintenance or construction equipment.
  • Assists other Public Works staff and departments in the planning and execution of assignments; provides labor and/or technical assistance as required; assists in general maintenance projects, needs, and activities.
  • Responds to work orders, log and submit documentation of completed tasks or assignments to immediate supervisor; follow department policies and procedures as designated.
