This recruitment will fill either a Water Treatment Plant Operator I or II position, depending on qualifications. Water Treatment Plant Operator I: Under direct oversight from a Water Treatment Plant Operator II, III, IV performs a variety of skilled work in the operation and maintenance of the City's water or wastewater treatment plant equipment and processes. Water Treatment Plant Operator II: The Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II position is responsible for monitoring treatment processes, operating plant equipment, collecting and analyzing process data, analyzes system performance via computerized control systems, and responds to changing plant conditions while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Applicants that do not meet all the minimum requirements for the Water Treatment Plant Operator II position may be considered for an underfill as a Water Treatment Plant Operator I, depending on applicant qualifications. If the position is underfilled, the salary offered would be commensurate with the lower level classification.

Requirements

  • Valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months.
  • Grade I operator certification from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality within the discipline of Water Treatment (for Operator I).
  • Grade 2 operator certification from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality within the discipline of Water Treatment (for Operator II).
  • Must reside in the State of Arizona during active employment.
  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalency.
  • Two years' experience in the operation of advanced, complex water and/or wastewater treatment facility (for Operator II).
  • Experience with advanced computerized systems utilized in water and/or wastewater treatment facilities (for Operator II).
  • Experience in mechanical and electrical trouble shooting (for Operator II).
  • Satisfactory completion of the Scottsdale Water/Wastewater Treatment Operator Apprentice Program or one year as a Scottsdale Water/Wastewater Operator I will meet the required years of experience for the Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of the principles involved in the operation of advanced, and complex water or wastewater treatment facilities (for Operator I).
  • Knowledge of advanced computerized systems such as those utilized in water and/or wastewater treatment facilities (for Operator I).
