About The Position

The Water Tech position involves managing and updating the Water Quality database, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment. This role also includes participating in community education and outreach, developing informational literature using water quality data, and presenting this information at events and to tribal leadership. The position requires collaboration with various officials and handling of reports and billing records. The role emphasizes following Viejas’s guest service standards and performing other assigned duties. This position does not involve supervision of others.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General education degree (GED) is required.
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Valid Class C California Driver’s License or higher issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicle.
  • At least 1 year of related experience or equivalent.
  • Experience with water quality monitoring, hydrology, microbiology, laboratory techniques, and data interpretation.
  • Familiarity with water quality monitoring protocols and equipment.
  • Working knowledge common computer operating systems.
  • Possess proficient verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Possess initiative and is comfortable performing tasks on time with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and acceptance of diversity.
  • Must be able to travel overnight and attend various trainings and workshop and conferences.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with GIS and GPS, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Enters and updates field data into the Water Quality database.
  • Orders supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains office, laboratory and field equipment.
  • Participates in community education and outreach activities.
  • Works with Resource Management team to develop public informational literature using water quality data and presents the information at the outreach events, to the Tribal Council, and to the Tribal general membership.
  • Collaborates and networks with Tribal, Federal, State and Local officials.
  • Prepares and organizes reports, billing records and other clerical tasks.
  • Follows Viejas’s guest service standards while performing job duties.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
