About The Position

Perform manual labor and equipment operation involved in maintenance of the Nisqually Indian Tribe's utilities buildings, grounds, and utility systems. Perform manual and semi-skilled work under direct supervision or within narrow parameters. Maintains physical plant and grounds; perform skilled work in the maintenance of the Nisqually Tribe's public utilities facilities, grounds, and surrounding. Assists in preparation for new construction, facilities alterations, and maintenance projects associated with the Tribe's water systems by assisting in the installation and repair of water mains, water meters, pump houses and water towers. Installs and repairs fences, signs, rockeries; dig and backfill ditches; assist in the installation, cleaning, and repair of sewer mains, catch basins, and storm sewers. Assists heavy equipment operators/maintenance or other Public Works staff in activities such as removing material from job site or digging ditches to place pipe. May perform routine equipment maintenance and perform routine custodial related tasks. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of tools and equipment used in maintaining and repairing facilities and buildings including basic carpentry, electrical, and plumbing skills
  • Ability to follow written or oral instructions
  • Ability to take responsibility and perform duties with limited or no supervision
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective system of communication within the organization and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to work both indoors and Outside work will require exposure to varying weather and terrain conditions
  • Ability to lift and/or move more than 100 lbs
  • Must have the ability and aptitude to understand instructions, have analytic and problem-solving ability, initiative, precision, and reasoning ability
  • High School Diploma or GED plus six (6) months' work experience which includes operation of hand and power tools used in maintaining and repairing facilities and buildings including basic carpentry, electrical, and plumbing skills, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Must have a valid Washington State Driver's license and be insurable under the Nisqually Indian Tribe's Insurance
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check
