The Water System Worker I is the entry-level class in the Water System Operator series. Under general supervision, the worker assists with testing, cleaning, maintaining, inspecting, repairing, installing, replacing, treating, distributing, constructing, and operating the City’s water systems and infrastructure, including surface- and groundwater treatment. The position requires understanding and applying relevant policies, procedures, and work methods. Incumbents may occasionally assist with training lower-level Public Works positions and perform other related duties as required. The role is distinguished from Water System Operator II, whose incumbents may have lead responsibility, and from Public Works Maintenance Worker II because this position requires skills, knowledge, and experience in water-system repair, maintenance, and installation. The posting describes automatic promotion to Water System Worker II upon obtaining a D2 certification and Backflow Prevention Device General Testing Certification. The position may also qualify for up to two 5% incentive pays for possession of a bachelor's degree and/or D3 certification.
