About The Position

The function of the Water Spider is to replenish the material used at each station so that the production personnel can focus on the process of adding value. Their activities are to create and maintain single-piece continuous flow. This job is systematic - they should have a route, a time-line, and a system to do everything. They are a generalist who has good relationships with everyone. They are the most knowledgeable about the efficiency of the line. On the hour-by-hour they will list the production obtained and account for any misses. They will utilize CCF1 – will become the guru on line balancing and SMED. Optimize CCF2 – set up and maintain KanBan and Heijunka. Create CCF3 – introduce production wheel and changeover matrix for maximum success. Will obtain EOS certifications – white/yellow belt certification. Will be involved in RIE’s – both as a participant and a leader.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience at EnerSys is required.
  • Certified to operate a forklift or the ability to be certified.
  • Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Outlook and Excel).
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English language.
  • Ability and willingness to lift, push, and pull at least 50 pounds.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a variety of areas within the production floor.
  • Excellent time management skills to fulfill tasks and rounds of the production stations.
  • Excellent communication skills with management and line workers to act as the liaison and provide feedback in both directions.
  • Must be able to differentiate colors.
  • Must be able to frequently bend; twist; reach; stoop; kneel or crouch.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds/23 kilos on a daily continuous basis. Anything heavier will be done with the assistance of a mechanical device or with the assistance of another employee.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Employees are responsible for wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment in the proper manner at all times.
  • Must be able and willing to wear a respirator.
  • Must be able and willing to work overtime.
  • Must be able and willing to work varying schedules which may include nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Risk of electrical shock.
  • This position is exposed to harmful materials such as lead/fiberglass products. Periodic blood tests are required to measure the level of lead. Precautions are taken by the company/employee to reduce the risk of exposure and help ensure everyones safety.
  • This position requires working in a plant/warehouse environment. Therefore, expect varying working conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Replenish material used at each station to allow production personnel to focus on adding value.
  • Create and maintain single-piece continuous flow.
  • Facilitate flow by keeping the assembly line clean and smooth by taking on occasional tasks such as material and tool replenishment or making shipping containers.
  • Ensure Just-In-Time (JIT) delivery of the right amount of material and supplies, at the right time, in the right place.
  • Maintain an overview of the workflow and fill in where needed to keep the flow going.
  • Communicate, facilitate, and assist as needed.
  • Manage hour-by-hour production, obtaining materials and supplies for the line.
  • List production obtained and account for any misses on the hour-by-hour report.
  • Ensure L6 metrics are met, utilizing the 5-Why process if metrics are not met.
  • Become a guru on line balancing and SMED (CCF1).
  • Set up and maintain KanBan and Heijunka (CCF2).
  • Introduce production wheel and changeover matrix for maximum success (CCF3).
  • Obtain EOS certifications (white/yellow belt).
  • Participate in and lead RIEs (Rapid Improvement Events).
