About The Position

Join a team dedicated to keeping the City of Manassas running smoothly! In this hands-on role, you’ll help with functions associated with construction and maintenance of City utilities to maintain, repair, and build essential water and sewer infrastructure.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class B commercial Virginia driver's license with air brakes endorsement within 6 months of hire.
  • Attends training courses as required (e.g. CPR, AED, first aid, defensive driving, trench and shoring safety, traffic control, etc.).
  • A post-offer, pre-employment criminal background check, driving record check, education/employer verification, along with a physical and drug screen will be conducted.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference may be given to individuals with previous experience in construction and maintenance of public infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Works as part of a crew to assist with water and sewer system maintenance
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains water and sewer lines, manholes, and fire hydrants.
  • Locates water and sewer lines for utility requests (Miss Utility system).
  • Detects and fixes leaks, inspects and flush sewer lines, and ensures compliance with City standards.
  • Assists with distribution testing and sampling for operational needs.
  • Participates in inspection of new construction to ensure that it is correct and meets City of Manassas standards.
  • Participates in the inspection and flushing of Sanitary Sewer lines.
  • Performs manual and semi-skilled work functions associated with the installation, maintenance, and/or repair of water and sewer lines .
  • Cleans and repairs catch basins, drainage ditches, and pipes, clearing debris from grates, and unclogging pipes
  • Assists with laying pipe.
  • Performs asphalt, concrete, and landscaping repairs as needed.
  • Clears snow from City sidewalks, buildings, and medians using shovels, snow blowers, and other tools.
  • Responds to emergencies, especially during severe weather.
  • Operates a variety of commercial grade power equipment, machinery and hand tools.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
