Water Service Technician I
About The Position
The purpose of this class within the organization is to take water samples and read meters. This class works under close supervision according to set procedures. Essential Functions: Collects and tests water samples to identify potentially high levels of chlorine in the drinking water supply. Investigates, researches, and resolves complaints associated with water quality. Performs hydrant and blow-off flushing to help alleviate distribution water quality problems. Accounts for water usage due to flushing. Reads meters and finishes work orders. Fills pools with fire hydrants. Changes meter registers; fix leaky meter boxes; installs and removes water meters. Additional Duties: Provides customer service to check for low water pressure and other common problems related to the water meter. Performs related work as assigned.
Requirements
- Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
- Requires some experience in the installation and repair of small mechanical equipment.
- Valid Virginia Driver's License.
