About The Position
Do you love kids, water, and making a difference? Are you the type of person who can turn nervous first swimmers into confident little fish? If so, we want YOU on our aquatics team! At the Bloomington-Normal YMCA, our Water Safety Swim Instructors do way more than teach strokes. They build confidence, create relationships, and help save lives through water safety education.
Requirements
- Must enjoy getting splashed on a daily basis
- Ability to stay positive even when goggles mysteriously disappear every 3 minutes
- Comfortable singing songs, giving high-fives, and celebrating tiny victories like they’re Olympic medals
- Must be able to turn nervous swimmers into confident little sharks
- Ability to communicate with kids, parents, and teammates with kindness and energy
- Must understand that “watch this!” is usually followed by something unexpected
- Ability to multitask while holding kickboards, noodles, and a conversation all at once
- Comfortable spending long periods in and around water
- Must bring good vibes, patience, and team spirit every shift
- Must be dependable swimmers count on you!
Nice To Haves
- Lifeguard/Swim Instructor certifications are awesome, but we can help train the right person
- Bonus points if you can survive listening to Baby Shark for the 47th time
