About The Position

Under the direction of the Water Resources Supervisor/Manager and other hydrogeologists and hydrologists, conducts office and field activities necessary to the collection, collation, and input of water resources data. This role involves the maintenance of groundwater monitoring equipment and general support of hydrological investigations.

Requirements

Knowledge of water quality analysis.
Knowledge of database operations.
Knowledge of groundwater and surface water sampling and measurement protocols.
Knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software and database operations.
Knowledge of GPS applications.
Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint with competency and comfortably import and format data.
Ability to make small-scale equipment repairs.
Ability to operate, maintain, and repair mechanical and electronic instruments and equipment using various tools.
Ability to use basic hand and power tools to perform equipment repairs and/or maintenance or to repair or install wellheads.
Ability to effectively communicate information in writing and verbally.
Ability to professionally and knowledgeably interact with the public encountered in the field.
Ability to work independently and in small groups; stay on task with minimal supervision.
Good driving record and navigation skills.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Two years of college courses with an emphasis in chemistry, biology, environmental sciences, or water technology; or equivalent experience and/or training in water resources.
Possession and maintenance of a valid California driver’s license is required throughout the term of employment.

Responsibilities

Collect water samples from municipal and irrigation water supply wells, piezometers, and surface water bodies (e.g., rivers, streams, lakes).
Perform measurements of water levels in wells and piezometers using various measurement tools.
Conduct stream gauging at various discharges.
Install, download, and maintain pressure transducers in wells and piezometers.
Use GPS to locate wells and/or water sampling locations, including entering agricultural and remote natural terrain.
Record field determinations of surface and groundwater chemical parameters.
Record water level measurements.
Prepare records for computer processing and enter data into computer files.
Assemble and prepare field and laboratory data for tabulation.
Maintain written field logs and equipment maintenance logs.
Service, maintain, transport, test, and repair field equipment (e.g., compressors, generators, sampling pumps).
Construct, assemble, install, adjust, operate, modify, and repair field equipment or wellhead appurtenances.
Maintain field equipment supply inventories.
Ensure field vehicle maintenance is performed as required.
Assist others with field projects (e.g., surface geophysical surveys, production well and piezometer installation/borehole logging).
Coordinate field activities regarding land access with property owners.
Establish routes to various off-site locations to perform job functions.
