About The Position

Haley Ward is seeking a Water Resources Project Engineer to join their growing, employee-owned company. This role involves planning, organizing, and controlling project activities to ensure successful completion within established schedules, budgets, and QA/QC policies. Typical projects include municipal water, sewer, and roadway infrastructure, dams, site planning, and stormwater management. The engineer will work in a team environment on a broad range of projects from planning through implementation, supporting the preparation of plans and specifications, conducting engineering computations for complex projects, and communicating with governmental/regulatory staff. The position also involves representing clients at regulatory agency hearings, performing overall quality control, monitoring compliance with codes and standards, and being responsible for the design concept of plans and specifications. Specific responsibilities include leading complex hydraulic design projects for municipal water distribution, collection systems, and treatment facilities, engineering pump stations from concept to commissioning (including electrical controls, telemetry, and automation systems), consulting with field engineers and contractors, communicating project strategy to the Project Manager, assisting in proposal preparation, promoting new business, designing and integrating SCADA control systems, and mentoring junior engineers while driving innovation in sustainable design approaches.

Requirements

• BS in Civil Engineering required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license with a minimum of 4 years of related experience OR Registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) on track to attain PE license with a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
• Minimum of 3 years design experience with water/wastewater systems.
• SCADA systems interest - design, programming, or integration of control systems.
• Pump station design expertise - from wet wells and pump systems to electrical/control systems.
• Sound mathematical skills are required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Valid driver's license & reliable transportation required.
• Reliably commute or planning to relocate to Portland, ME before starting work.

Nice To Haves

• Skills in AutoCAD, hydraulic modeling software, and control system design desirable.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and control project activities to ensure successful completion within established schedules, budgets, and QA/QC policies.
• Support the preparation of professional, economical, and effective plans and specifications.
• Conduct engineering computations to design difficult and complex engineering projects.
• Communicate directly with governmental/regulatory staff relative to design concepts and requirements.
• Represent clients at regulatory agency hearings or meetings.
• Perform overall quality control of the work (budget, schedule, plans) and report regularly on project status to Project Manager.
• Monitor compliance with applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards, and specifications.
• Be responsible for the design concept of the plans and specifications.
• Lead complex hydraulic design projects for municipal water distribution, collection systems, and treatment facilities.
• Engineer pump stations from concept to commissioning, including electrical controls, telemetry, and automation systems.
• Consult and advise field engineers, contractors, and inspectors regarding the construction phase of the project.
• Communicate with the Project Manager on project strategy and matters that may impact the outcome of a project.
• Assist in the preparation of project proposals, including scope of work, time schedule, and manpower estimates.
• Promote new business for the total company and for their own area of expertise.
• Design and integrate SCADA control systems for automated monitoring and operation of water/wastewater infrastructure.
• Mentor junior engineers and drive innovation in sustainable design approaches.
