Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking a Water Resources Project Engineer I to join their dynamic, employee-owned consulting firm. As a Project Engineer, you will support the delivery of transportation and municipal water resources projects, developing technical expertise in hydrology, hydraulics, drainage design, stormwater management, and floodplain analysis. You will work alongside experienced project managers and technical leaders, gaining hands-on experience on impactful projects. JMT's Water Resources practice focuses on drainage, floodplain, stormwater, and transportation projects throughout Texas and Colorado. A key aspect of this opportunity is the ability to train under a trusted TxDOT H&H engineer, receiving direct mentorship from a recognized industry leader. This role is ideal for individuals aiming to become technical specialists, project managers, or future practice leaders, offering hands-on experience with complex transportation and water resources projects across Texas. The Water Resources Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the planning, analysis, design, and delivery of drainage, stormwater, floodplain, and transportation projects. Working under the guidance of experienced project managers and technical leaders, this position allows for the development of both technical and project delivery skills while contributing to a growing Water Resources practice. This position is available in the Longview, TX or Tyler, TX offices.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope
  • Analyze project requirements and information from alternative studies to develop an accurate report for submittal
  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects
  • Perform design computations
  • Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools
  • Develop construction cost estimates
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction
  • Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications and estimates
  • Manage project sub-consultants and in-house support disciplines
  • Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals
  • Prepare proposals as required
  • Attend meetings with clients
  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
