About The Position

The Water Resources Project Engineer 2 performs advanced levels of planning, analysis, and design for a variety of complex water resource projects including stormwater management, storm drainage systems, stream restoration and fish passage, bridges, and culverts, and more without oversight. Duties may include field investigations and inspections, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, watershed modeling, alternatives analysis, design and drafting, cost estimating, technical report writing, preparation of scope and budgets for new projects, conducting quality control checking of others’ work, frequent client coordination, and other tasks as needed on large, complex projects. The person in this position is expected to exercise a strong work ethic and professional judgment, a desire to learn and apply new design concepts, perform autonomously while training and mentoring others with less experience, and have excellent organizational and communication skills. A Water Resources Project Engineer 2 is expected to work well with others, absorb and apply constructive criticism, and seek guidance from more experienced members of the team as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • 10 years of experience required
  • 9 years of experience required with advanced degree
  • PE required
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) - Advanced
  • Market Sector Software (water resource, GIS, and CAD software) - Advanced
  • Advanced understanding of technical fundamentals
  • Washington State stormwater regulations
  • WSDOT and WDFW fish passage experience and guidelines
  • Demonstrates expertise to others within and beyond market sector
  • Provides unique solutions to complex technical challenges
  • Effectively mentors less experienced staff
  • Performs quality control of complex deliverables
  • Advanced awareness of technical aspects of other market sectors

Responsibilities

  • Performs advanced levels of planning, analysis, and design for a variety of complex water resource projects including stormwater management, storm drainage systems, stream restoration and fish passage, bridges, and culverts, and more without oversight.

  • Leads the production of and provides quality control for site investigations, design calculations, technical reports and memos, exhibits and figures, construction quantity calculations and cost estimates, design documents and construction plans, complete technical sections of permit applications, presentation content and slides, prepare content for bidding addenda, and construction inspection of designed components.
  • Develops budgets and schedules for complex projects in conjunction with the project manager.
  • Breaks down complex projects into logical tasks.
  • Prioritizes multiple assignments to successfully deliver all assigned projects on time and on budget.
  • Expertly identifies, interprets, and employs design codes and technical guidance documents.
  • Leads technical client project meetings.
  • Participates in project interviews.
  • Oversees team operations and the daily workflow of the team.
  • Organizes workflow and ensures that employees understand their duties or delegated tasks.
  • Recruits and hires new employees.
  • Implements training for new hires and identifies training opportunities for current staff.
