About The Position

Barr is seeking a senior water resources engineer to join our Calgary team. In this hybrid role, you will support hydrologic analysis for rural and urban settings; hydraulic analysis and design related to rivers, streams, conveyances, dams, and other hydraulic structures; impact assessments; and natural channel design, as well as work with clients, permitting agencies, and public officials. Assignments may also include leading project teams with a variety of technical backgrounds and disciplines. A successful person in this role will have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. They must possess a flexible working style and be willing to occasionally modify their schedule to meet deadlines and/or client needs.

Requirements

  • B.Sc. in civil, environmental, or related engineering fields with a focus on water resources.
  • 10+ years of water resources engineering experience with a focus on hydrology, hydraulics, or water quality.
  • Experience leading projects and building teams.
  • P.Eng. registration or eligibility for immediate registration with APEGA.
  • Experience and knowledge of hydrologic modeling and 1D and 2D hydraulic modeling software.
  • Possession of a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without the need for sponsorship by Barr Engineering and Environmental Science Canada Ltd., now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • M.Sc. or PhD in civil or environmental engineering with a focus on hydrology and/or hydraulics.
  • Experience in business development and client management.
  • Working knowledge of GIS and CADD software.
  • Experience with site development design, plans, and/or specifications.
  • Construction observation, fieldwork, and surveying experience.

Responsibilities

  • Strong technical knowledge of water resources engineering, including hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of rivers, flood control, and conveyance systems.
  • Experience with modeling, analysis, and design related to stormwater infrastructure, rivers and streams, floodplains, hydraulic structures, dams, and levees.
  • Assist with the preparation of technical reports, plans, and specifications and work with clients, permitting agencies, and public officials.
  • Assist with planning, coordinating, and executing projects.
  • Help ensure project milestones are met and provide regular updates to project managers and clients.
  • Perform QA/QC and provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior staff.
