About The Position

We have a career opportunity for a Mid to Senior Level Water Resources Engineer to join our global mining team reporting to our Denver, CO office. The position is available at both Denver, CO and Chihuahua, Mexico offices. The successful candidate will become part of a dynamic mining team with clients in the US, Mexico and South America. This position will focus on the surface water aspects of water resources engineering. Our ideal candidate will be an engineer with academic specialization and/or experience in Water Resources, a B.S. and/or M.S. degree in Civil Engineering, Professional Engineer registration (or eligibility for registration), and 5 to 10+ years of relevant engineering experience. Ability to analyze and model complex systems to support the design and construction of water management infrastructure. A significant understanding of surface water hydrology and hydraulics is required. Will design for water balance and dam breech assessments. A strong ability to read, analyze, interpret, and write complex documents is required. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries, develop presentations, and write technical documents and articles is required.

Requirements

  • BS in Civil, MS in Water Resources.
  • Professional Engineer registration (or eligibility for registration within year) – this applies for our Denver office.
  • Candidate must be Registered as Professional Engineer in Mexico – (Cedula Profesional) this applies for our Chihuahua office.
  • 5 – 10 years + of experience.
  • A working knowledge/familiarity with each of these: Microsoft Office suite, AutoCAD Civil3D, GoldSim, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, FLO-2D, StormCAD, ArcGIS.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English if located in Denver
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Spanish and English if located in Chihuahua
  • Superior time management, planning and ability to interact with clients.
  • Ability to think “outside the box” to create innovative engineering and design solutions.
  • Demonstrated maturity in judgment and initiative
  • Demonstrated report writing skills.
  • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in tailings dam and/or heap leach design and construction is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out analytical and design functions for projects at stages ranging from scoping to detailed engineering, construction, and closure.
  • Apply and present a demonstrated knowledge of water resources and civil engineering to develop safe, economical, and innovative solutions to water management issues.
  • Perform technical analyses, calculations, and modeling; including, but not limited to, climatic, hydrologic, hydraulic, sediment yield and transport, water balance, and dam break evaluations.
  • Be responsible for the development of civil designs of water management infrastructure.
  • Plan, direct, coordinate and perform (as appropriate) field investigations; including, but not limited to, hydrologic data collection (quantity and quality), geotechnical drilling and subsurface permeability testing, and construction supervision/quality assurance. This will include travel to domestic and international destinations.
  • Provide civil engineering services related to tailings, heap leach and mine waste facilities.
  • Calculation of MTOs and provide construction specifications.
  • Be encouraged to become a senior contributing member of the Wood E&IS Inc. Mining Group, which is a global team of professionals responsible for the design, operating assistance and closure/reclamation planning of tailings, leach and mine waste facilities around the world.
