About The Position

This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of equipment related to the City’s Water Quality (wastewater) System. The role involves monitoring, maintaining, and repairing equipment and facilities within the wastewater collection and treatment system. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining accurate records of work performed, general external maintenance (mowing, trimming, snow removal), and indoor facility maintenance (cleaning, painting). The position requires responding to on-call and weekend duties on a rotating schedule after training. Work must be performed in accordance with established safety and operational procedures, requiring independent judgment. The role also includes monitoring and collecting samples for State wastewater reporting, performing basic laboratory functions, and accurate data entry into State reporting forms.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of relevant work experience with the operation of mechanical, electrical, and automotive tools and equipment; equivalency considered.
  • Valid VT CDL license with Tanker Endorsement or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • VT Grade 1-DM Wastewater Operator’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, maintain, and repair equipment and facilities related to the City’s wastewater collection and treatment system.
  • Create and maintain accurate records of repairs, routine maintenance tasks, pump station callouts, and other significant work tasks.
  • Perform general external maintenance tasks such as mowing grass, trimming, and snow removal.
  • Perform indoor facility maintenance tasks such as cleaning, mopping, and painting.
  • Respond to on-call and weekend duties on a rotating schedule after training period.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with established safety and operational procedures and techniques, requiring independent judgment in operating equipment.
  • Perform duties in accordance with established procedures and techniques, requiring independent judgment and decision making.
  • Monitor and collect samples for State wastewater reporting.
  • Perform basic laboratory functions.
  • Responsible for accurate data entry into State reporting forms.
