About The Position

Under limited supervision of the Lead Water Technician, the Water Plant Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of water treatment and fluid handling systems in an upstream oil and gas environment. This role ensures reliable performance of water facilities, gathering pipelines, and fluid transfer processes, while maintaining required injection volumes. The technician performs daily monitoring, operation, and maintenance of equipment across all fluid-handling areas and managers communications related to fluid movement and dispatch. This position troubleshoots and resolves most operational issues independently, escalating the most complex engineering-related challenges as needed. The Water Plant Technician possesses strong working knowledge of water treatment processes, field operations and automation systems to apply both practical experience and technical understanding to analyze complex problems and implement effective solutions. Additionally, the role involves planning, coordinating and executing short-and long-term work activities to meet production demands. The technician works closely with completions teams to support hydraulic fracturing and flowback operations, ensuring seamless integration with water management systems.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of electrical skills and safe working practices related to high voltage systems on facilities.
  • Basic automation troubleshooting skills.
  • Basic knowledge of downhole operations and water injection protocols.
  • Work under pressure and multi-task to meet deadlines.
  • Understand the safe operation of valves and facilities operation under high pressure / temperature.
  • Maneuver heavy objects.
  • Responsible for securing and maintaining all company-issued equipment (e.g., vehicles, computers, test equipment).
  • Operate a vehicle safely (in all weather conditions) to drive to oil & gas equipment locations located in rural/open range country.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; effectively converse with all levels of the company, customers, business associates

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three plus years’ experience in Oil and Gas industry
  • Valid driver’s license

  • Lease Operator experience
  • HS2, HAZWOPER, First Aid/CPR training
  • Low Voltage Technician License

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Perform daily operational checks of water treatment facilities, water gathering pipelines, and injection facilities.
  • Act as primary interface for all fluid hauling, including working with operations and contract haulers to coordinate, dispatch, and report fluid movements in the field.
  • Perform plant related work to the level assigned by the Lead Water Plant Technician.
  • Operate and perform advanced trouble shooting on water gathering equipment, automation systems, in addition to standard plant systems.
  • Operate and maintain both plants, water gathering, and injection systems in a safe and environmentally sound condition.
  • Maintain compliance, in conjunction with and through close coordination with the Lead Water Plant Technician, and EHS Department, for all regulatory, environmental and safety issues.
  • Maximize operating efficiency of water plants.
  • Work with engineering, completions, construction, EH&S to improve operations to accurately account for production, reduce operating expense, implement new technology, and reduce safety and environmental hazards.
  • Oversee and direct service crews on daily operations.
  • Use appropriate safety equipment and comply with all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Follow surface safety equipment guidelines and report equipment malfunctions.
  • Maintain respectful and productive working relationships within and across all work groups, ensuring effective collaboration and cooperation.
