About The Position

EPCOR is seeking up to two (2) Water Plant Operators to join their team at one of the Water Treatment Plants in Edmonton. These full-time, temporary roles are expected to last up to 11 months and offer an excellent opportunity to contribute to essential water services in Edmonton. The position requires a commitment to safety and a zero-injury culture.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or an equivalent level of secondary education.
  • Successful completion of the NAIT Water and Wastewater Technician program or an equivalent certification.
  • Possession of an Alberta Environment Protection Level I Water Treatment Operator Certificate, or actively working towards achieving Level 1 within 6 months of hire date.
  • Strong understanding of water treatment plant operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook), SharePoint, and SCADA systems.
  • Ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver’s permit, which requires a valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License, no more than 6 demerits at the date of hire, a clean driving history, and submission of a 5-year commercial Driver Abstract.
  • Physical ability to perform strenuous tasks and work outdoors in varying weather conditions year-round.
  • Willingness and ability to wear a ½ mask respirator for extended periods daily.
  • Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
  • Commitment to delivering excellent service, continuous improvement, and eagerness to learn and share knowledge.
  • Ability to take initiative, communicate openly, and thrive both independently and as part of a team.
  • Solid track record of working safely and keeping safety top of mind.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • GDL class drivers may be considered (limited to 3 demerits and subject to driving behavior review).

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and execution of operational plans and strategies.
  • Deliver optimal results aligned with performance metrics, including meeting or exceeding conditions of the Approval to Operate safely, efficiently, and effectively.
  • Provide high-quality service while maintaining cost efficiency and surpassing internal water quality and production targets.
  • Accurately record and communicate significant operational events and daily activities.
  • Maintain the Water Treatment Plants through timely upkeep and ensuring safe, clean working environments.
  • Assist in the coordination of Hazardous Energy Isolation activities for maintenance, engineering, contractors, and scheduled plant shutdowns.
  • Operate distribution and process control systems and conduct established water quality tests.
  • Ensure safe operation of plant equipment, including setting and monitoring chemical feed rates.
  • Update and maintain documentation and logs related to tests and processes.
  • Troubleshoot and correct minor operational issues and perform other related duties as required.

Benefits

  • Starting at $42.75 per hour
  • 80 hours biweekly (this position may require participation in rotating shift work).
