About The Position

Under general supervision, this role involves supervising and coordinating the day-to-day activities of personnel engaged in the maintenance and operation of a water treatment plant. The position requires coordinating 24-hour plant operations in accordance with federal and state requirements and departmental procedures. This includes scheduling maintenance, inspecting the plant, monitoring the water treatment process, and responding to emergencies. The role also involves directly supervising critical tasks, monitoring water samples, analyzing laboratory results, and making necessary adjustments to chemical dosages and treatment processes to ensure compliance with water quality regulations. Maintaining inventories of chemicals and spare parts, completing database input for maintenance software and TCEQ reporting, and preparing various reports are also key functions. Additionally, the position involves supervising assigned staff, including scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work, appraising performance, providing training, and enforcing safety and personnel rules. The role also includes interviewing applicants and making recommendations for hiring, termination, and other employee status changes.

Requirements

  • A High School diploma, GED or higher
  • Five (5) years of experience in water treatment plant operations and maintenance
  • Two (2) years in a lead capacity
  • Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state.
  • Class "B" Water Certificate of Competency issued by TCEQ.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate 24 hour plant operations in accordance with federal and state requirements and departmental procedures.
  • Schedule regular, preventative and corrective maintenance of equipment security systems, facilities and storage areas in order to minimize effect on water treatment plant operation.
  • Inspect plant and monitor all stages of water treatment process.
  • Correct any equipment and treatment deficiencies.
  • Respond to emergencies and determine remedial action.
  • Directly supervise critical tasks such as installation of raw water pumps, high service pumps or changes in plant processes.
  • Monitor water samples data, analyze laboratory results and instrument readings and make required adjustments.
  • Regulate dosages of chemicals applied to water during treatment.
  • Check water for turbidity, odors, alkalinity, chlorine residual and other requirements to assure compliance with water quality regulations.
  • Maintain inventories of water treatment chemicals and spare parts for critical areas.
  • Complete data base input for Facilities Maintenance software and TCEQ reporting requirements.
  • Prepare daily activity reports and logs.
  • Prepare required administrative reports.
  • Schedule, assign and review operational and procedural activities.
  • Prioritize, adjust and coordinate plant activities to meet unforeseen scheduling changes or emergencies.
  • Instruct, guide and check work.
  • Appraise employee performance.
  • Provide training and development.
  • Review and enforce occupational health and safety rules and regulations.
  • Issue safety equipment.
  • Enforce personnel rules, regulations, and work standards.
  • Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony.
  • Interview applicants.
  • Recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, merit pay or other employee status changes.
