About The Position

Under basic supervision, the Water Maintenance Worker performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of water distribution systems. This position is a tentative “At-Will” appointment and subject to a probationary period of six (6) months from the date of hire. Upon successful completion of a probationary period, a non-management employee shall be granted regular status in the classification in which the probationary period is served.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent AND some previous experience in the maintenance and repair of water utilities systems; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

Excavates for mains and services by using hand tools or pneumatic equipment or cleans trenches made by trenching machines.
Performs a variety of maintenance, construction, and repair work on water mains, hydrants, meters, and related water services.
Operates dump trucks, jackhammers, air compressors, backhoe, loaders, and hand tools.
Helps repair various machines by making adjustments and handling tools as directed.
Reads gauges and meters and maintains operating logs according to schedule.
Checks equipment for proper operation and makes minor adjustment as directed by lead worker.
Maintains and repairs the chemical feed system according to established procedures.
Collects samples for chlorine residual and bacteriological analysis in accordance with Federal, State, and local requirements or as needed for operational process control.
Performs routine custodial and maintenance duties.
Performs related duties as assigned or required.
