About The Position

Under basic supervision, the Water Maintenance Worker performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of water distribution systems. This position is a tentative “At-Will” appointment and subject to a probationary period of six (6) months from the date of hire. Upon successful completion of a probationary period, a non-management employee shall be granted regular status in the classification in which the probationary period is served.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent AND some previous experience in the maintenance and repair of water utilities systems; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Excavates for mains and services by using hand tools or pneumatic equipment or cleans trenches made by trenching machines.
  • Performs a variety of maintenance, construction, and repair work on water mains, hydrants, meters, and related water services.
  • Operates dump trucks, jackhammers, air compressors, backhoe, loaders, and hand tools.
  • Helps repair various machines by making adjustments and handling tools as directed.
  • Reads gauges and meters and maintains operating logs according to schedule.
  • Checks equipment for proper operation and makes minor adjustment as directed by lead worker.
  • Maintains and repairs the chemical feed system according to established procedures.
  • Collects samples for chlorine residual and bacteriological analysis in accordance with Federal, State, and local requirements or as needed for operational process control.
  • Performs routine custodial and maintenance duties.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or required.
