About The Position

The work involves responsibility for performing semi-skilled tasks in the installation, maintenance and repair of water mains and services. This class involves the application of plumbing skills to a variety of tasks involving installation and repair of services, laying of water mains and related jobs. Assignments are received from a crew leader in the form of verbal communication or job order form. Work may be reviewed in progress or upon completion by visual observation or through submission of forms indicating job performed. Depending upon size of task, an employee in this class normally works as a team member under the general supervision of a crew leader; on small tasks the employee may function independently. Supervision is not a regular responsibility of the position. Does related work as required.

Requirements

City of Syracuse residency is required (must establish residency within six months of hire date if not already a resident).
Two (2) years of full time work experience, or its part time equivalent, performing physical outdoor construction work including the operation of heavy and light work trucks and/or equipment.
OR One (1) year full time work experience, or its part time equivalent, performing underground utility work.
Possession of a valid non-CDL or CDL with appropriate endorsements as required by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles for the class of vehicle(s) being operated, when required to operate motor vehicles.

Successful completion of a trial period of no less than 30 workdays but not to exceed 90 workdays.
