About The Position

Water Infrastructure Machine Operator Overview Join us and become part of the Cook Family. We are seeking a Water Infrastructure Machine Operator to support our growing operations by operating heavy equipment and performing hands-on work to maintain and repair water systems across our manufactured home communities. Cook Properties is New York State’s largest owner and operator of manufactured housing communities, with 100+ mobile home parks totaling 7,000 pads, along with 200,000+ square feet of commercial, retail, and office space, and 2,000 self-storage units. This role is ideal for a skilled equipment operator who enjoys working outdoors and takes pride in precision, safety, and efficiency. You will play a key role in excavation, leak access, and infrastructure repair by operating machinery such as mini excavators, trenchers, and other equipment to support water system maintenance and emergency response.

Requirements

  • Proven experience operating excavation equipment (mini excavators, trenchers, skid steers, etc.)
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or equipment operation training preferred
  • Experience in underground utilities, water systems, construction, or similar field preferred
  • Strong understanding of safe digging practices and underground utility awareness
  • Ability to perform physical labor and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic equipment maintenance
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate heavy equipment including mini excavators, trenchers, and other digging machinery to expose water lines and infrastructure
  • Perform excavation work to support water leak detection, repairs, and system maintenance
  • Assist in locating underground water lines and leaks using specialized tools and equipment
  • Dig, backfill, and restore work areas with attention to minimizing disruption to residents and property
  • Support repair of water mains, service lines, valves, meters, and related infrastructure
  • Respond to emergency situations such as water main breaks and service disruptions
  • Ensure proper setup, operation, and shutdown of all equipment in accordance with safety standards
  • Perform daily equipment inspections, basic maintenance, and ensure machinery is in safe working condition
  • Work closely with team members and community management to coordinate repairs and site work
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, equipment usage, and materials used
  • Follow all OSHA guidelines, company policies, and safety procedures at all times
