About The Position

The City of Danville is seeking a Water Distribution Operator to assist in the operation and maintenance of the City’s Water Distribution Utility system. This is a labor-intensive, full-time, non-exempt position that works with minimal direct supervision under the direct supervision of the Water Distribution Superintendent. The City of Danville is a municipal government agency providing a broad range of public services and is the business hub to a 5 county region.

Requirements

• Ability to perform heavy manual labor for long periods of time.
• Ability to climb into deep and confined spaces.
• Ability to work outside under all types of weather conditions.
• Ability to be trained on and operate various heavy duty equipment and vehicles.
• Ability to understand mathematical formulas and apply them.
• HS Diploma or GED.
• Valid and current driver’s license.
• Ability to study for and obtain KY state certified Water Distribution Operator License for levels I, II, III, and IV.
• Standing for prolonged periods of time.
• Twisting, stooping, bending, and walking on a regular basis.
• Ability to crawl in and out of tight and confined spaces.
• Ability to climb up and down ladders, and over rough and irregular ground surfaces.
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs on a regular basis.

Nice To Haves

• Prior water distribution experience.
• KY Water Distribution License Level I, II, III, or IV.
• Working knowledge of tools and machinery operation and maintenance.
• Prior experience with the operation of light and heavy duty trucks.
• Special consideration will be given to applicants that currently hold a KY Water Distribution Operator License.

Responsibilities

• Repair, maintain, clean, mow, and keep equipment, pipes, tanks, grounds, and systems operating and clean.
• Drive City vehicles, both small and large.
• Handle customer questions and complaints.
• Operate heavy equipment upon completion of necessary training.
• Clean vehicles and equipment.
• Work nights, weekends, and holidays as job duties demand.
• Perform other job duties as assigned.
